“So Much Wine”
Phoebe Bridgers starts the Christmas season off with an expertly crafted song, “So Much Wine!” Now, I would say that I’m surprised but that would be a lie. If you know Phoebe Bridgers, then you know that annual holiday tracks are a staple. This year is no different. Today I’ll be taking a look at the beautiful “So Much Wine.” Let’s get right into it!
A Wonderfully Somber Rendition
Alright, a piece of trivia for you: “So Much Wine” was originally a song by The Handsome Family. It came out in 2000, but now 22 years later, Phoebe Bridgers breathes new life into it! With the lyrics telling the story of someone who drank far more than they should’ve and the narrator telling them what they did on Christmas Day.
I need to be incredibly honest with you… this specific version of “So Much Wine” is wonderfully somber. Phoebe’s singing and vocal delivery holds emotional resonances throughout. Match that with a purely acoustic composition and you’ve got something that sounds nostalgic. So much so that it could even bring a tear to your eye if in the right mindset. I’ve gotta say that I’m impressed!
