Music Discovery artist Owenn puts some soul into his R&B vibe in latest single “Show Me.” The dancer-turned-singer employed by Lady Gaga, Beyoncé, Alicia Keys, Rihanna, and Miley Cyrus, now rejoins Taylor Swift on tour. But, this time, Owenn is not dancing; he is a supporting act for Swift’s “The Eras Tour” in 2023.
Owenn opened up about the new single ahead of its release: “I have the most heartfelt song coming out at midnight .. about love and being with the people you love.. I’ve personally up until this point never really showed myself in this light .. I’m letting you guys in and I really hope you listen to this record and actually listen to the lyrics because now more than ever we need love .. I need love ..”
“Show Me” By Owenn
“I don’t wanna hear about / None of the nonsense / Floating on the surface / That seems so important,” the singer opens. It’s raw and brazen; it’s clear that rumors consume his day-to-day life. There’s a real need for authenticity and clarity in the song, highlighted through the light, acoustic chorus.
Then, in the chorus, he erupts in a choir-like, soulful mission searching for truth in connection. “Show me / Words are not enough to / Illuminate the real you / Show me / How we / Are getting to the bottom of / Talking ’bout real love, you gotta show me,” Owenn preaches. His voice is not asking–he’s pleading, and it is full of meaning and hurt. And just as the chorus swells into something meaningful, it falls back into a carefree verse.
The dichotomy between those feelings and the sonic intensities infers that this feeling isn’t constant but, when it arises, it consumes Owenn.
The artist was not lying when he said it’s “the most heartfelt song.” The lyrics aren’t a riddle to decode; Owenn wants the message to be heard in its most vulnerable form. And let me tell you: it has been received, loud and clear. Everyone is deserving of love, plain and simple.
