On The Rise of Chappell Roan

When Chappell Roan was first discovered on the music scene, the then-17-year-old thought she was going to win a GRAMMY. She signed to Atlantic Records after having an impressive run on YouTube sharing her music. Finally, she was living her dream, traveling across the country, writing and performing music. She told The Guardian, “It’s funny, because, when you sign to a label, that’s when the real work begins.” The hustle and bustle of that work had her hoping for a GRAMMY. The work made her feel like she had just won the lottery.

Getting her start in 2017, Ronan released her first single “Good Hurt.” The artist released her first EP, School Nights, a month later. She also debuted on her first nationwide tour, Vance Joy’s Lay It On Me. She then went on another tour at the beginning of 2018.

During the height of the pandemic, Ronan released another single, “Pink Pony Club.” A visit to a gay nightclub inspired the song. Not only was it popular, it ranked third on USA Today’s “10 Best Songs Of 2020.” Two years later, in 2022, she had more than 10 million streams on Spotify, even when she was dropped from Atlantic Records because they felt like the single underperformed at the time.

As for building herself back up after falling so many times, the singer is determined to come back strong, as she always does.
