On Steve Aoki’s New Album “Hiroquest: Double Helix”

On Friday, August 18th, American DJ Steve Aoki announced his brand new concept album Hiroquest: Double Helix. This album will feature Paris Hilton, Akon, and Galantis. Other notable collaborations include Angela Aguilar, Danna Paola, Greeicy, JJ Lin, Hayley Kiyoko, Timmy Trumpet, and John Martin. The album builds upon the concept of “Hiroquest: Genesis” and the world the DJ built himself. A world that “embraces a sense of nostalgia for the early days of Aoki’s career while also pushing dance music into the future,” as per Variety.

Commenting on the new album, Steve Aoki told Variety, “Hiroquest is an entire world I crafted around an enigmatic character named Hiro. Part I was largely driven by my alt-music roots in hardcore punk bands. Double Helix embraces dance culture while intertwining the pulse of contemporary Latin Music.” The DJ also told Variety how it was a dream come true to work with all these notable artists, especially Akon, given both of their styles fused together really nicely.

Steve Aoki and American Hiro

Steve Aoki is also currently the executive producer on the American Hiro television show. The series is in development with Fox and directed by Jon M. Chu. Relaying his past life, the show will follow the story of Hiroaki “Rocky” Aoki. Hiroaki is the DJ’s father. He is also the famed creator and entrepreneur of the Benihana restaurant empire. Given Steve Aoki has received two Grammy nominations, it will be no surprise to see the show become a big hit. With the new album coming out on November 15th, it will be his tenth consecutive studio album as a music producer. This makes fans interested to see how well it compares and contrasts with his last album. Everyone is excited to see what the future holds for the artist himself.
