Sample Used In “Freaky Girl”

“Freaky Girl” interpolates the classic hit record “Super Freak.” by Rick James. The funk R&B legend released “Super Freak” in 1981 which became his biggest pop hit. It secured the 16th spot in the U.S. However, MTV refused to play videos by black artists at this time, so they rejected Rick James music video for “Super Freak.” They sure missed out!

To point out, many people gravitate towards the track because of the infectious bass line. In fact, MC Hammers biggest hit “U Can’t Touch This” released in 1990, samples “Super Freak.” Now, Minaj is putting her own sexy spin on the hit record. Speaking of, Minaj has always been open and confident in her sexuality. For example, “Anaconda,” “Rich Sex,” “Good Form,” she doesn’t shy away from telling what she likes in the bedroom. Fans are referring to “Freaky Girl” as Anaconda 2.0 because both tracks utilize samples from the late 1900’s and they are both sexually explicit.
