Nicki Minaj and BLEU Put Us In Our Feels With “Love In The Way”

"Love In The Way" by Nicki Minaj And BLEU

“Love In The Way” by Nicki Minaj And BLEU

Nicki Minaj continues to build off the success of her previous number one song “Super Freaky Girl” with new single “Love In The Way” with BLEU. Released on September 16th, this marks the first collaboration between Minaj and R&B artist BLEU. As a matter of fact, the “Anaconda” rapper is no stranger to experimenting with R&B music. To name a few, “Save Me,” “Right Thru Me” and “Pills N Potions” incorporate R&B/Soul with elements of pop music. Many Nicki Minaj fans have expressed their excitement for another R&B record by the rapper.

Sample And Lyrics

Moreover, “Love In The Way” by Nicki Minaj and BLEU interpolates a sample from “Whole” by Pop/R&B singer Sam Tompkins. Tompkins is best known for his vocals in “To The Moon” by London-based rapper Jnr Choi. “Love In The Way” is about holding onto a rocky relationship faulted by mistrust. BLEU and Minaj are still in love with their partner, therefore they fear ending the relationship once and for all. BLEU questions how he will find love again when her love will be lingering, obstructing his path to a new relationship. Minaj delivers smooth rhymes on the fourth verse rapping, “One minute you here and then you gone/Seem like your biggest fear to be alone/I was givin’ you your space, I was runnin’ through your mind/But you runnin’ out of time this time.” Her partner is inconsistent, and Nicki has done her part and knows she deserves more at this point. The rapper calls out her lover for doing too much talking and not enough listening. The constant fights cause her stress and she is tired of it. On the other hand, BLEU wants to save his relationship, despite the hurt she has caused him.

Sonics Of “Love In The Way”

The track is inspired by Afro-beat sounds with a loop of the sample from “Whole” in the background. The vulnerable lyrics match the somber sample from Tompkins. “Love In The Way” has a great bounce to it, and combines R&B melodies with Afro-beats. It’s the perfect song to jam to for the crisp fall weather.
