New Avicii Documentary Sheds Light On the Late EDM Artist’s Life

After Avicii’s first documentary was released in 2017, a new documentary is set to be made as of September 2021 to be released sometime later this year. The first documentary was made by the DJ’s close friend Levan Tsikurishi. The new doc will also feature unreleased footage and interviews with family, friends, and other EDM stars like Sabastian Ingrosso and Axwell from Swedish House Mafia.

According to Avicii’s estate, the new doc will be directed by Bjorn Tarnberg and Henrick Burman. According to Billboard, Burman wants “to provide an honest and new perspective on both the artist Avicii and Tim’s life. I (also) want this film to be one that surprises and challenges the public’s opinion of Sweden’s biggest international artist of today, and in doing so, also shine a light on what his music has meant to so many people.” The film will be produced by Lawrence Bender, who did films like Good Will Hunting, Pulp Fiction, and Inconvenient Truth. Bender told Billboard he was excited about “not just the story of Avicii, but also the take (Henrick) had. It’s that take that is going to make the film eye opening.”

As the first doc did, this one will tell the story of how Avicii rose to fame with the help of Ash Pournori. Pournori first discovered the artist back in 2008, and the duo worked together until they split in 2016. This was around the time Burling started going though a career burnout. This was the first step in his suicidal thoughts that ultimately led to his death. It’s the price of fame through the lens of someone that was truly loved around the world.

This new documentary can also hopefully shed light on who the artist truly was and how fame ultimately led to his brutal downfall. The downfall that took someone who people held dear to their hearts in the international music industry. It also has the potential to clear up controversy the first documentary had, depicting what happened when the tours and production stopped.
