Megan Thee Stallion & RM Deliver “Neva Play”

As she barrels towards a deluxe edition of her latest album, Megan Thee Stallion enlisted RM for her latest, “Neva Play.” Here’s everything you need to know about the boisterous, energetic single.

While RM & Meg on “Neva Play” may seem like an out-of-left-field collaboration at first blush, both artists have been essentially circling each other with their recent output. For RM’s part, the BTS hiatus as each embark on their Korean military duties has forced he and a few select other members towards the US to further propel their solo careers. Wale, Erykah Badu & Anderson .Paak are just some of the collaborators in his wake. Meg famously minted her most recent smash with some international help, the Yuka Chiba-assited “Mamushi.”

RM & Megan Thee Stallion Showcase Natural Chemistry With “Neva Play”

As for the actual music, the instrumental for “Neva Play” sets it and Megan Thee Stallion up for TikTok success from its first moments, borrowing the heavy-hitting synths of phonk music that’s already dominant on the platform for a slow-build in the intro. Once fully executed, the beat delivers the undeniable infectiousness that we so frequently see in Megan Thee Stallion’s catalog, only enhanced by her trademark confidence & charisma. See how she closes her verse: “Three things I don’t play about, myself, my money or my man / Mention one of them and best believe I’m gone’ be at your head.”

RM makes his appearance in the back half, and the added edge & attitude is easily apparent from his first moments. To be sure, the swap from Korean to English still comes with some challenges, but even as a form over function sort of performance, there’s a lot to revisit with what he brings to the table.

The deluxe version of the Houston MC’s latest album, “Megan” has no set release date. In the meantime, check out what Megan Thee Stallion & RM cooked up with “Neva Play” wherever you stream your music, along with either of their full catalogs. On another scheduling note, she will also take on the hosting role for MTV’s VMA’s tonight besides performing.
