The Duo We Didn’t Know We Needed
2021 has already been full of surprises, but one of the biggest has to be Billie Eilish and Rosalía’s collaboration. Their song, “Lo Vas A Olvidar” dropped today, January 21, and has already garnered hundreds of thousands of streams.
The new track has Grammy-winner Eilish singing in Spanish alongside Rosalía, who is already a critically-acclaimed Latin star. It’s an alluring, bilingual piano ballad. The two harmonize in airy tones above the soft music flawlessly.
Eilish took to Instagram when the song premiered to share her love for it. “I love this song so muchhh now here it is for you to enjoy,” she wrote alongside a clip of the music video.
The simplicity of the music video perfectly contrasts to the depth of the song. Billie Eilish and Rosalía evoke emotion as they sing melodically in an empty, dark setting. Beams of light shoot in and out of scenes at times, warming the cool, sophisticated video.
Billie Eilish and Rosalía’s HBO Debut
Eilish virtually sat down with Apple Music’s Zane Lowe to talk about how the song came to be. When working with Rosalía, Eilish explained that the singer suggested that the song be in English. The “bad guy” singer was adamant about it being in Spanish, though. (“Lo Vas A Olvidar” translates from Spanish to English as “You Will Forget.”)
“Obviously a lot of it is in Spanish, which I think is so important. I remember when we were writing the song, I remember her saying something about like ‘It should be in English,’ and I was like ‘No, no, no. It should be in Spanish. It’s so beautiful.’”
The collaboration was created for HBO’s hit series, Euphoria, which stars Zendaya. This dramatic, symphonic song will be the perfect addition to the equally as dramatic teen show. It will be featured in a special, upcoming episode on January 24th titled, “Part 2: Jules.” The episode follows Jules, who is portrayed by Hunter Schafer. Schafer is on the cover for Billie Eilish and Rosalía’s “Lo Vas A Olvidar.”
The two internationally acclaimed and beloved artists collaboration for Euphoria is a dream come true. Although it was a dream that fans of all three didn’t know they had before today, it was a dream nonetheless. The stunning, Spanish ballad and its video have already taken 2021, unsurprisingly, by storm.
