Lady Gaga confirmed to star in new Joker movie. The news was immediately warmly received by the public, but critiques didn’t wait to arrive. The announcement of a music-centred production, disparities in salaries between the two actors and the release of a sequel itself were only some of the controversies that rose after the news.
Lady Gaga is the new Harley Quinn
After getting recognition through her acting in “A Star Is Born” and “House Of Gucci,” Lady Gaga will now commit to a new huge movie. Joker: Folie a deux, due to hit cinemas on 4 October, 2024, will see Lady Germanotta in the role of Harley Quinn.
Fans are extremely glad for the role assignment, but doubts rose around the release of a sequel in the first place. In fact, people online are wondering if it’s necessary for Joker’s second movie to come out. As some criticized, the first one perfectly works on its own. Moreover, some showed fear for the speculation that the movie could actually be a musical. This, according to some, might lower the tone and change too drastically the idea behind the first Joker.
Will Arthur’s neighbour Sophie return?
“Joker: Folie à Deux” may mark the return of Arthur’s neighbor Sophie. Despite being killed (or at least this is what was implied in the first movie), actress Zazie Beetz might return in her old clothes.
Questions may rise, especially if we consider that Sophie was the Joker’s first romantic interest. Only time will tell us how the story will develop.
Beetz also discussed the idea of making a musical out of the new Joker movie.
“I love musicals, and I think of them as the characters are feeling and experiencing so much that they can only sing and dance about it, whether in sorrow or in joy. And I can actually see that within myself as well, because singing and dancing is quite a cathartic experience for me.”
She added, “I can see Arthur [Fleck], who is feeling and experiencing so much, dancing and singing about it. He’s the Joker, so I think it makes sense to me.”
Lady Gaga will make half of Phoenix’ salary
A huge controversy grew since the release of Variety‘s report about movie stars’ salaries. In fact, as the magazine states, Phoenix’ new movie will get the actor at least a $20 million pay check, $15 million more than the first movie. On the other hand, Lady Gaga will be making $10 million, half of his co-actor’s salary. Fans immediately questioned why the reason behind this evident difference. Is it because of the man’s central role or because he is indeed a man?
