Based out of Berlin, Germany, Korean DJ Peggy Gou has many accolades to her name. Just a week ago she gave a Master Class at Harvard! She’s a singer, songwriter, DJ and record producer. Her music career started at age eight with classical piano lessons, before her parents sent her to London to study English. After returning to Korea for a while, she then went back to London to study fashion. She worked as a correspondent for Harper’s Bazaar Korea before finally moving to Germany.

She officially started her DJ career in 2009, after her best friends taught her the DJ basics. Gou landed her first gig in Cirque Le Soir in the Soho district of London. Her first track was “Hungboo,” named for a hero of a Korean fairy tale. It became so popular that she played it at the 2016 Style Icon Awards opening show. In the same year, Gou signed with Radio Slave’s Rekids label and finally made her recording debut, The Art of War Part 1. She released four EPs soon after, including Seek for Maktoop with her hit song “It Makes You Forget.” More EPs included Once in 2018 and Moment in 2019.

Gou embarked on her North American Tour in 2017, playing in New York’s Boiler Room and Berlin’s Berghain. She has also played at Coachella, Glastonbury, Sonus in Croatia, Dekmantel in Amsterdam, Printworks in London, Ibiza and Primavera Sound in Portugal.

Gou has played over a thousand gigs a year. In addition to her busy schedule, she has also received a few awards. Her hit track “It Makes You Forget” won Best Track at the AIM Independent Music Awards in 2018. She’s received nominations for EPs and tracks such as Herself and “Starry Night.” Her 2019 album, Peggy Gou: DJ Kicks, landed in the number nine spot on Billboard’s Dance and Electronic Sales chart. After releasing “(It Goes Like) Nanana” last year, she released her new album, I Hear You, on June 7th. Check out our review of it here.
