Katy Perry’s ‘Woman’s World’ Goes Viral for the Wrong Reasons…

Welcome to Music Daily’s Trending Tracks, where we highlight the artists and trends occupying the music industry’s attention. Some come out of the woodwork, others have endured a months-long crusade to greatness. Nonetheless, all of them are captivating the short-circuited minds of Gen-Z social media users.

This week, Katy Perry’s album rollout for KP6, confusingly titled 143, is already off to a rocky start thanks to the deservingly heavily ridiculed lead single, “Woman’s World.” Other entries, including the bratty “Apple” by pop provocateur Charli XCX and “Did It First” by Ice Spice, complete this week’s Trending Tracks.

“Woman’s World” by Katy Perry

Welcome back, “California Girls” Katy Perry… my, how the world moved on without you! Fun pop music is back and better than ever. But why isn’t the 5x RIAA Dimond-certified pop diva “hitting” like before? Is it the outdated lyricism that reeks of performative feminism? Maybe it’s the disgraced Dr. Luke producer credit? Sure, the “We Can Do It!” music-video message is quintessential 2010s perfection, but it’s 2024.

Or could it be Perry’s blatant out-of-touch, Gen-Z rebrand that feels intrinsically inauthentic to the legend’s kitschy past of “Peacock,” “Waking Up In Vegas,” “Bon Appetit” and more? It all just feels wrong for a single destined for pop radio success.

“I set out to create a bold, exuberant, celebratory dance-pop album with the symbolic 143 numerical expression of love as a throughline message,” explains Perry. On Friday, September 20, Katy will headline the sold-out Rock in Rio in Brazil, marking her first performance at the Rio de Janeiro festival since 2015. Stream “Woman’s World” by Katy Perry below!

“Did It First” by Ice Spice and Central Cee

Ice Spice’s Y2K! album rollout weathered many social media storms. Now, the rapstress can chill and be boo’d up with English rapper Central Cee on new single, “Did It First.” Ice began teasing the single last week, stirring up speculation and amassing over 42 million views on TikTok plus 10,500+ creates with the official sound.

She declares, “If he cheating, I’m doing him worse / No uno, I hit the reverse / I ain’t trippin’, the grip in my purse / I don’t care, cuz he did it first.” On his verse, Central Cee does his best to conceal his infidelities but admits, “If I went court for all the times I got caught / I’d have about 16 felons.”

“you look like you love me” by Ella Langley and Riley Green

Alabama singer-songwriter Ella Langley tries a different type of love song. Adding Riley Green to the spoken-word duet, the pair has a flirty conversation perfect for a deserted low-lit dive bar, whisky in hand.

“you look like you love me” is an instant hallmark in beloved country collaborations akin to the charm of the 1966 collaboration “Summer Wine” by Lee Hazelwood and Nancy Sinatra. Stream “you look like you love me” by Ella Langley and Riley Green below!

“Apple” by Charli XCX

It is undeniably a Brat summer. Upon Charli’s album release, nearly every track had its 15 minutes of (social media) fame… all but “Apple.” As what Charli described as a Caroline Polachek song, most fans instantly skipped. It wasn’t until Charli, friend Terrence O’Conner, and Troye Sivan made a simple three-step dance did everyone wake up to a different, mightier “Apple.”

Now hailing at 162k TikTok videos, “Apple” is Charli’s most visible track next to “365”—with only 62k creates—on the video-first platform. It is indeed a bratty “Apple” summer. Stream “Apple” by Charli XCX below!
