Reggaeton star Karol G, known for hits like “Tusa” and “Bichota,” just released her third studio album KG0516, and she explained the meaning of the title.
Karol G Invites You to Fly With Her
Karol G, whose real name is Carolina, explained that KG0516 stands for a flight number, with her initials and an important date on it: May 16. “This album represents the evolution of Carolina as a person and Karol G as an artist. This is a flight I want to invite all my fans on to join me on my musical journey. Each song represents a connecting flight that takes you to a new place. I experimented a lot with different sounds, genres, and unique vibes. It’s definitely something that hasn’t been heard before from me. The songs are all a representation of who I am today as a person and an artist.”
The singer explored various sounds in the new album. She went in a different direction than what she has done in the past. This time, alongside her characterizing reggaeton rhythms, she incorporated the tones of pop, country, bachata, and even regional Mexican.
The album includes 16 songs and features great collaborations with high-caliber artists such as Alberto Stylee, Anuel AA, Brray, Camilo, Emilee, Ivy Queen, J Balvin, Juanka, Ludacris, Mariah Angeliq, Nathy Peluso, Nicki Minaj, Nicky Jam, Ozuna, Wisin & Yandel, Yandar & Yostin and Zion. All of the collaborators on this album come from a different part of the world. This allowed each song to have a novel and unique sound.
She Put Her Heart Into KG0516
On the album release date, Karol G dropped the music video for “EL MAKINON,” where we see the Latin star taking on the streets of New York City. She jumped on Instagram to announce, “My album is out, and it feels like I was born again, really! I put my whole heart into every word I wrote, to every video I recorded, to every detail I planned. Seeing it out now was the only reason I didn’t sleep for the last 2 months!”
She continued, “I don’t know if it will become number one or if it will break records or not. In my heart, it’s the best album of 2021. I just hope that if there is something you want to say and don’t feel confident enough to say out loud, some of my songs will let you express it. I love you all and thank you for living all of this with me! Here is ‘MAKINON’ and by the way, what is your favorite song?”
