In the beginning of June, Justin told his fans that he was diagnosed with Ramsay Hunt syndrome. This specific disease occurs when a varicella-zoster virus infects a facial nerve. Symptoms of the syndrome include facial paralysis and a painful rash covered by fluid-filled blisters.

Bieber’s Ongoing Health Issues

Biebs has been dealing with mental health issues for years. In 2017, he cancelled part of his ‘Purpose’ tour due to his mental health. In 2019, he began to receive treatment for depression, and has been very open about it to his fans and the media. He also talks about it in his documentary, Justin Bieber: Next Chapter, describing how at one point he even felt suicidal. In addition, in 2019 he took a break from music to focus on his healing.

The singer, 28, has been through many trials and tribulations throughout his long career. 2 months after his diagnoses and announcement about it to his fans, he was back on the stage performing at Italy’s Lucca Festival. By his posts on instagram, he definitely missed the stage; he captioned one of his photos from the festival, “Luv u guys and I missed you”.

The ‘Justice World Tour’ started on February 18th, in San Diego. It was supposed to start in 2021 but was postponed due to Covid. In June when the ‘Peaches’ singer was diagnosed with Ramsay Hunt Syndrome, he initially started by cancelling a few dates; but then eventually cancelled the rest of the shows in June.

He resumed in July and continued throughout August. His last show was on September 4th in Rio de Janeiro. His next show was supposed to be on September 7th. Fans are very disappointed, but also very understanding considering the singer’s circumstances.

Bieber expresses his sorrow for having to cancel the tour on his Instagram. Throughout all he has been going through, he’s talked a lot about looking to God for it all. In ‘The Redemption of Justin Bieber‘ on GQ, author Zach Baron says “He talks about God and faith and castles in Ireland, about shame and drugs and marriage. He talks about what it is to feel empty inside, and what it is to feel full.” He also has a quote later in the article where he says “I feel like my relationship with God is wonderful. And I have this outpouring of love that I want to be able to share with people, you know?'” Hopefully with his faith, Justin can get through this and get back on the stage.
