joan Share Fierce Track “so done”

Rising indie-pop duo joan shared their latest single. “so done” arrives as the sixth installment from their wave era, and third off their bye EP.

Welcome to joan’s wave Era

Joan have been working hard this year on new music. The duo entered their wave era at the beginning of the year with “come over,” which arrived as the first single off their hi EP. The other EP they are working on, bye, features songs about letting an ex go, which is where “so done” plays a part.

“so done” is about realizing that the person you’ve been in love with is actually not that good for you, so you decide to call it quits. “I called to tell you that it’s over. No more crying on my shoulder. You think that everything’s about you. So I’m leaving. Don’t evеn bother calling me back. I’ll leavе your stuff out on the doorstep. I’m sure you’ll move on by the weekend. We’re so-so done, so done, so done,” they sing in the chorus.

The Duo Wrote “so done” in Only 20 Minutes!

Talking about the songwriting process for “so done” with Us Weekly, joan revealed that they wrote the song in only 20 minutes! “Growing up we always heard artists say things like, ‘We wrote this song in 20 minutes,’ and always thought it was a bit dramatic because it just doesn’t really happen like that. But listen, we wrote basically wrote this song in 20 minutes. We sat down in the studio and Alan started humming, ‘Called to tell you that it’s over.’ From there, it seemed like every line wrote itself one after another. It was a really cool experience.”

The pair also revealed that they plan on releasing a new single every month until the end of the year. “After we released cloudy/partly cloudy, we got straight to work, writing so many new songs,” the longtime friends said in a press release. “We found that the songs were naturally falling in two different camps. So, we decided rather than trying to force them to work together, it would be more interesting to release two EPs over the course of the year. Welcome to the wave era: Here comes a new joan song each month through the end of the year.” They also described how “so done” is actually the counterpart of “so good.”

Are you excited about getting to hear more music from joan soon? We are for sure!
