Rising Moroccan-Canadian musician Faouzia has shared her second single of the year. “Puppet” arrives as the follow-up to “Hero,” released in June.
“Puppet” is a Hymn to Freedom
Faouzia is the star on the rise who defies genres. Last year, she joined forces with John Legend on the powerful “Minefields,” which has amazingly over 50 million streams. This singer-songwriter’s dynamic vocals are making noise across the world and we’re here to show you why.
“Puppet” is a dominant song where Faouzia determines she cannot be whoever her partner wants her to be in a relationship. She’s her own person, and she is not going to tolerate being controlled. “I was born to dance, dance. Could never tie strings to my hands, hands. You could only love a pu-pu-puppet. I could never be a pu-pu-puppet,” she sings in the chorus.
Faouzia shared her thoughts about her new single to Uproxx. “‘Puppet’ is a song about challenging relationship dynamics as a woman, taking charge, and shamelessly being yourself. I want young girls around the world to know that they don’t need to change who they are for anyone. That someone that loves you shouldn’t ask you to be someone you’re not.”
She continues, “If anyone tries to knock you down, or force you to conform, use that as motivation to stand up taller and only surround yourself with those that want to prop you up and support you. Throughout the song, the word “ حرية” is chanted, Arabic for ‘freedom’.”
As the world continues down a difficult path daily, this message is more necessary than ever.”
