Demi Lovato & Sam Fischer Drop Heartfelt ‘What Other People Say’

Last Friday, Demi Lovato teamed up with Australian singer-songwriter Sam Fischer to release a new song, ‘What Other People Say’. The song regards the singers’ struggles to triumph over societal pressures. It’s about staying true to yourself and not losing who you are in an effort to please others.

‘What Other People Say’ Was Meant to be a Duet

On the date of the song release, Sam shared “I’ve never felt so much love in my whole life. this song is so special to both me and Demi and i’m so SO happy it’s all yours now. FISCHERS LOVATICS. I LOVE YOU. LETS DO THIS!!!!” While Demi shared on Instagram two days prior “These lyrics are so special to my heart. I can’t wait to share this one with you.”

Fischer wrote ‘What Other People Say’ years ago, according to Billboard. He said in a statement that he always knew that the song was destined to be a duet. Sam added that the song is “a confession, realizing how far away you can get from who you are in an effort to be liked,” and was “blown away” when Demi agreed to sing on the track with him.

Demi & Sam Feel Society’s Pressure

Sam continued, “It’s about the pressures of society and how getting caught up with the wrong things can change you.”  Demi added, “This song is a reflection on what it’s like to lose who you truly are in an effort to please other people and society,” It’s why I wanted to make this song with Sam — ultimately it’s about two humans coming together to connect and find solutions to their problems.”

In the lyric video both singers put out, they are part of the popular board game Guess Who? taking part as the main characters. They are shown going through different emotions throughout the video, and finally getting a winner at the end, who guessed both of Demi & Sam’s characters.
