Rapper Cardi B returns with “Hot Shit,” featuring Kanye West and Lil Durk. This is the rapper’s follow-up to last year’s Billboard No. 1 song “Up” and 2020”s “WAP” with Megan Thee Stallion. There are rumors of Cardi’s sophomore album, but no official announcement yet.

The new single will not have a music video due to label issues.

Cardi states that she is already ready to put out a second single.

“Hot Shit” By Cardi B (featuring Kanye West & Lil Druk)

The Tay Kieth-produced track is nothing short of a club banger and might be the song of the summer, similar to 2017’s “Bodak Yellow.” She notes on Zach Lowe’s show that Lil Durk brings that “young energy” that was missing in the song.

(Durk and Kanye previously collaborated on the 2021 song “Jonah,” a track from Ye’s tenth studio album, Donda.)

She also speaks on another thing missing in rap today: “I don’t know what’s going on right now… You know those records that Meek used to do. I want to hear one of those that it’s just like, pump me up. I’m trying to bring that with this record.”

There is even Twitter discourse over the outside scenery going backward.

Out of all the gifted artists on the track, Cardi shines the brightest (by far)! She basks in her music’s success, independence, and the riches it has brought. She raps:
“Bought a home and closin’ on another, I know I’m blessed / Everybody wanna be gang, ain’t no spots left /Bad bitch contеst, it wouldn’t be a contest / Ooh, smokin’ dope, I’m connеcted / I don’t know what’s longer, man, my blocklist or my checklist / I don’t know what’s colder, man, my heart or my necklace / Pretty when I wake up, I’m a bad bitch at breakfast.”

Zane Lowe on Apple Music 1

On Friday, July 1, Zach Lowe interviewed Cardi on his show to discuss her new single, her collaborators, and what is upcoming for the rapper. She reveals that this song is both new and old. While it is a recent release, it was recorded in 2019 and was shelved because she felt it was too “masculine.” She adds:
“This song been in the vault for a minute. It’s a ‘he’ because, for some reason, I be thinking some songs just have genders. It’s weird. So the song is a boy. And this song, I think, is a little bit older than ‘WAP.’ I think I recorded this song around 2019 around there. So I’ve been having this song for a minute. Everybody always loved this record, but I always feel like this record’s so masculine. I don’t know if people want to hear that from me…”

During the interview, Cardi states Kanye gave her a verse “months ago” when he was “all over the media” (i.e., Kim and Kanye’s divorce). And although the rap is flashy and fun, the rapper saw something beyond his flamboyant personality. She says:

“And I had a lot of conversations with Kanye West. I learned so much about him and he’s such an amazing, sweet person. I’ve been feeling like, I wish a lot of people have conversations with him so they could just see the real him.”
