BLACKPINK Release Newest Single “Pink Venom”

BLACKPINK have just released their newest single, “Pink Venom,” and everyone—BLINKs and BLACKPINK alike—is excited.

“Pink Venom” and Its Meaning

Kpop stars BLACKPINK have just dropped their latest single, “Pink Venom.” The song follows the release of their collaboration with PUBG Mobile, “Ready For Love.” “Pink Venom” is the first single off of BLACKPINK’s upcoming album, Born Pink, which drops September 16th.

In a press conference in Seoul, the girls spoke about what “Pink Venom” means to them. According to Jeff Benjamin at Billboard, Jennie said, “Since ‘pink’ and ‘venom’ have contradicting images, we thought they were kind of reminiscent of us… we are named BLACKPINK and contradiction is our charm — we wanted to show that. It’s pink venom, a lovely poison, it’s words that most express us.”

Additionally, Jennie explained that the “essence” of BLACKPINK is “confidence.” She talked about how some fans are worried BLACKPINK “might stray away from our identity,” but how the song is actually “the most distinct and clear way to represent us.”

Jisoo talked about how the song has both today’s hip hop as well as traditional Korean instruments, such as the geomungo, a stringed instrument. Rosé spoke about how excited she was when she first heard the song. “I remember the first time I listened to the song in the studio; it was really new and sounds we never attempted before.” She shared how she “wanted to record the song right away and show our performance.”

Lisa, ever the dancer, discussed her excitement with “Pink Venom” and its strong choreography. The choreography even has a sure-to-be-viral “fang dance.” Lisa said, “We visualized a fang with our hands which most intuitively expresses the ‘Pink Venom’ concept.” Clearly, BLACKPINK is incredibly excited to share their new music with BLINKs, their fans, and will be awaiting the album drop almost as much as BLINKs will.

The Music Video Teasers

Before the music video for “Pink Venom” dropped, BLACKPINK released two individual teaser trailers for all four girls. The first teaser for each girl showed them in cracked glass containment chambers, all of them dressed in pink. The second teasers had mysterious lighting and a prop from the music video, all the girls now dressed in black. The teasers served to further display the contradiction that they’re known for, as well as the contradiction of “Pink Venom.” Check out the teasers on their YouTube channel here.

Aside from a comeback, the girls are also getting ready for their performance at the 2022 MTV Video Music Awards. Besides performing, they’ve also been nominated for Group of the Year.
