Blackbear Takes Us To Misery Lake

This past Friday, R&B pop singer, blackbear, revealed it all on his most recent project release. Misery Lake is a six-song EP that encapsulates the musician’s feelings of loneliness and longing in 2020. Blackbear gets deep, telling us of the battles he went through dealing with isolation and depression during quarantine.

His signature melancholy style is perfect for this gloomy approach. Regardless, most of the songs are still super catchy and relatable. Just listening to the leading single on the EP, “@ my worst,” it perfectly reflects the message he is getting across.

In an interview with, blackbear personally describes the album, “It’s about isolation. It’s basically about quarantine and how you can feel loopy and you can feel happy and you can feel horrible all at the same time.”

On top of its concept, blackbear also doesn’t skip out on the features for this one. With appearances from Tate McRae, Sasha Alex Sloan, and Travis Barker, he has a solid supporting cast helping him.

Even though the subject of this project is darker than his previous one, his popularity keeps climbing. In the past year and a half, blackbear has managed to make a lot of positive things happen in his life since the pandemic.

Unlike many musicians, the Los Angeles-based artist, singer, and hit songwriter emerged from last year’s quarantine period with two new projects: his fifth studio album everything means nothing that featured his breakout single “hot girl bummerand the new EP Misery Lake.

During 2020 all blackbear was doing was surfing through Los Angeles Airbnbs to escape the mental prison of lockdown. The only things that kept him sane were music and a couple of changes in scenery. And it looks like that formula is paying off too.

What’s Next For blackbear?

Now, in a post-quarantine world, the EP with heartbroken bangers and edgy-pop production will soon be performed live as he tours the U.S. this fall.

Currently, he is touring with Maroon 5 on a 33-stop tour with tickets available HERE.
