Beauty in Music

Beauty in Music

Your favorite artists may be making more than just music! Here are two of our favorite beauty brands founded by musicians.

Selena Gomez: Rare Beauty

Selena Gomez is a rare talent and a remarkable business woman. In September of 2020, the ‘Revelacion’ singer launched a mission-based beauty brand. The vegan and cruelty free makeup line partnered with Sephora aims to demystify the “beauty myth.” Gomez created products to make people feel good about themselves, without the pressure of physical perfection.

Rare Beauty’s mission is to use makeup as a tool to celebrate what makes each of us rare. Gomez says, “These products aren’t about being someone else, it’s about being who you are, whether that’s rocking a full face of bold makeup or barely any makeup at all. Makeup is something to enjoy, it’s not something you need. I want every person to feel beautiful exactly as they are.”

Reviews for the makeup are as positive as the message! Best selling products include the perfect strokes volumizing mascara, the mini soft pinch liquid blush trio, and the mini mauves lip duo. The brand also hopes over the next ten years to raise one hundred million dollars to help give people access to mental health services. The company allows Gomez to utilize both her creative talent and charitable nature

Harry Styles: Pleasing

Another musician using creativity to launch his own beauty brand is Harry Styles. A nail, skin, and apparel company, Styles started Pleasing “to collaborate with people who inspire me and to explore ideas that go beyond music.”

Pleasing just recently launched their first drop, which consists of four polishes, eye and lip serum, and a face serum. The polishes named Perfect Pearl, Granny’s Pink Pearls and Inky Pearl are 12-free, biodegradable, and made with plant based solvents. The eye and lip serum, as well as the face serum are products Styles, himself will be sure to use. He says “I didn’t want the products to mask people, I wanted to highlight them and make them feel beautiful.”

The “Treat People with Kindness” singer hopes to bring “joyful experience and products that excite the senses and blow the boundaries. We’re pleasing, never perfect.”
