Bad Bunny’s Yonaguni” Debuts at No.1

Bad Bunny’s second single of 2021, “Yonaguni” is already breaking records as it debuted at Number 1 on the Hot Latin Songs chart.

Bad Bunny Breaks Records With “Yonaguni”

“Yonaguni” marks Bad Bunny’s eighth leader and record-breaking 40th top 10. He breaks out of a tie with Enrique Iglesias and Luis Miguel, each with 39 top 10s. Released June 4 via Rimas, the song registers the largest streaming week for a non-holiday Latin song since 2018, with 27.3 million U.S. streams earned in the week ending June 10, according to MRC Data. It concurrently earns the highest debut for a Latin title on the all-genre Streaming Songs chart ever, at No. 2. The track also starts at No. 1 on Latin Streaming Songs.

The title of the song refers to the Japanese island “Yonaguni”. The Yonaguni Structures are part of this island, which are speculated vestiges of an ancient city that ended up being submerged under the ocean.

Prior to the release of “Yonaguni” Bad Bunny talked about its release during an interview with Zane Lowe for Apple Music. “I think it’s a good song people are going to love… A balance is what people want. That’s the idea, you know. To make a balance and give the people what they want. The street fire, the street bang, and also a chill sweet rhythm to dance and enjoy for the summer.”

He continued, “I wrote the song three weeks ago and I felt it and I said, ‘I’m going to record this’ and when we recorded it we said, ‘Oh, wow, this song is magical’. It’s something about my feelings, it’s something about how I feel right now, it’s something sweet. I think it’s the first time I’m making something like this in a long time. I don’t remember the last time that I made a song so mellow and dance.”

Bad Bunny’s first release of the year was “100 MILLONES,” which came out just the week before “Yonaguni.”
