Alt-pop artist Baby Queen recently announced that her debut album The Yearbook is on its way. To give fans a taste of it, she dropped the new single “You Shaped Hole.”
“You Shaped Hole” Explains Heartbreak
Following up on her last single “American Dream,” Baby Queen sings about a long-lost romance in “You Shaped Hole”. She pours her heart out while admitting to an ex-lover that she’s still in love with them. “Stop listening to the music you listen to. But I still look at all your photos, so what’s the use? I can do any f*cking thing that I want to do. But therе’s a hole inside of me and it’s shapеd like you,” she expresses in the heartbreaking chorus.
Speaking about her latest track, Baby Queen says, “I was super heartbroken when I wrote this song, and my ex was dating this beautiful supermodel after dumping me in Clissold Park in North East London. As one does, I went through a bit of a wild phase and was doing everything I could possibly do to feel better. At the time I had this image in my mind of a hole inside my body that was shaped exactly like my ex, and it was as if I was trying to fill that hole in any way I could, but the things I was filling it with never reached the corners or made me feel any better, they just cluttered my life.”
The Rest of the Album Will Touch on Other Topics
On Instagram, she revealed the new song would be the “last love/breakup song we’re going to hear from me for a while.” “The rest of the mixtape is about ubiquitous sadness, politics & society,” she added.
Baby Queen’s debut album The Yearbook arrives later this year. “You Shaped Hole” is actually not the first single she’s given fans off of the project. “Raw Thoughts,” “These Drugs,” “Dover Beach” and “American Dream” will all form part of the record. With a total of 10 songs, there are only 5 songs left that fans haven’t gotten to hear yet. But they won’t have to wait too long! The Yearbook lands on September 3.
