Ava Max had an amazing year in 2020. Alongside dropping her debut album Heaven & Hell in September, she’s been all over the radio. Now, she continues to impress us with a brand new music video for her single ‘My Head & My Heart.’
A Fun Cover of a Classic Song
‘My Head & My Heart’ serves as the lead single of the deluxe edition of Max’s debut studio album Heaven & Hell. Two months after the album was released, Ava teased ‘My Head & My Heart’ in a tweet, telling fans she had “been waiting for the right moment to share this song.” The track interpolates A Touch of Class‘ ‘Around the World (La La La La La)’, released in May 2000. The song is an English cover of ‘Песенка (Pesenka)’ released by Руки Вверх (Ruki Vverh) in 1998.
In an interview with Style Caster, Ava talked more deeply about ‘My Head & My Heart’ and the inspiration behind it. “The interpolation of the ‘la la la’ was really fun to add in cause I grew up listening to that. The ‘90s track was a really different experience. We’re all stuck in our homes and I want to make people dance.”
Ava Looks Forward to a Post-Pandemic Future
The music video for the single takes place in a nightclub, adding the perfect mix for a song touching on the 90s. “The music video was actually in the club and is completely different than any other videos that I’ve done. It’s about being torn in between your head and your heart. It’s very vulnerable, but it’s also very dance-inspired.” She also added, “I’ve always wanted a video like this. I wanted to set it in a club because the moment I finished [recording] the song, I wanted to be out at a club dancing.” She acknowledged that nightclubs are still mostly closed all around the country due to the ongoing pandemic. “People need to dance, people need to feel happy ― even in quarantine,” she added.
‘My Head & My Heart’ currently tops the pop radio stations, and it also earned the #1 spot as the most sold song in the iTunes chart. Ava has really earned these achievements! Can’t wait to hear more from this talented artist.
