Talking to NBC’s TODAY co-hosts Hoda Kotb and Savannah Guthrie, the pop star gushes the years worth of music finally coming to fruition. Max says, “It feels surreal. We always dream about this as artists, putting out music. When it’s finally announced and out doesn’t feel real. It’s just incredibly exciting.”

Cirkut, the only collaborator and producer from her debut studio album “Heaven & Hell” (2020), is back on the sophomore project. But the first glimpse of Max was simply unforgettable, spawning mega hits “Sweet but Psycho,” “Kings & Queens,” and “My Head & My Heart.”

The album’s lead single, “Maybe You’re The Problem,” is the star’s “Angry Spice” moment. The synth-pop song’s retro winter-themed music video sees the singer switching between reality and an alternate video game universe.

“Million Dollar Baby” by Ava Max

The second single shows a glitter of hope that the singer-songwriter tries to find when not feeling like themselves (like everyone else!). Though Ava decides to forget about the all-to-fitting ballad rabbit hole and pairs the heavy topic with some dance beats. In true “Diamond and Dancefloors” fashion, this track will cause a whole lotta crying while dancing.

“When I was creating this record, I was going through a really hard time in my life – heartbreak and just a lot of sadness,” Max shared in a statement. “I titled it ‘Million Dollar Baby’ to remind myself of my self-worth and wrote the lyrics to show that you can overcome and achieve anything when you put your mind to it. The line ‘She broke out of her chains, turned the fire into rain’ shows the journey this song took me through – from feeling weighed down by sadness to breaking free and feeling like myself again.”

The song’s message of individuality and desperation for self-love bears a striking resemblance to Lady Gaga‘s 2011 track, “Hair.” Everyone is a Million Dollar Baby, but it was time for Max to crank up the dancing beat and remind herself what that feels like!
