The 1975 Nailing It With “I’m In Love With You”

It feels like forever since we’ve had a really solid and truly amazing body of work from British band, The 1975. Now, don’t get me wrong, there are bangers in the previous two albums. However, both “A Brief Inquiry Into Online Relationships” and “Notes On A Conditional Form” suffer from being a bit over bloated with far too slow tunes. The neon glow and amazing pop of their second album was exactly what solidified their fans. Just looking at the charts proves this as it’s their most successful album. Each subsequent release has severely underperformed in sales and it’s really sad to see. “I Like It When You Sleep, for You Are So Beautiful yet So Unaware of It” was it. That was the direction they should’ve stayed. While it’s taken a really long time to get back there, it seems like their upcoming album is that return. Now, let’s finally take a look at…

The 1975 and the Beauty of “I’m In Love With You”:

This track is EXACTLY what we’ve been needing. So first let’s analyze the actual music before getting to that music video. Starting off with an acoustic guitar riff that erupts into a lovable explosion of sound. We’re already starting off strong, then Matty starts singing about the feeling of being in love. No sad message underneath, no existentialism, just a guy being in love and that’s honestly enough. Matty Healy, and by extension the rest of the band, have a great perspective when it comes to lyrics. They’re full of metaphors and in-your-face lines about really sensitive subjects. I love ‘em for it! BUT C’MON MAN! This vibe just hits different. The song, while abundantly simple lyrically, it’s just such a nice listen.

The Continuation To The Clowns:

Now, who expected for them to continue the love story from their second album?! Not me, that’s for sure. Which just works incredibly well for getting my hopes up that this is a sign that we’ll get a spiritual successor to that work. It’s fun, it’s nice, it’s still very human and absolutely great in every way. Here’s to hoping! “Being Funny in a Foreign Language” is set to release on October 14th!
