Kelsey Ballerini and pop group LANY released their “I Quit Drinking” collab. They first unveiled it at the 2021 CMT Music Awards.
Kelsea Ballerini & LANY Collab for the First Time
The mid-tempo song is all about the hangover of a failed relationship. Kelsea and LANY frontman Paul Klein mixing a top-shelf vocal cocktail. The track was written by Ballerini and Klein with Nicolle Galyon. According to the country star, it gives her a special kind of buzz.
“I’ve been a fan of LANY for a long time!” Kelsea said. “So, it was really amazing to work together on ‘I Quit Drinking’. We’ve all got Tennessee in common, and we found this sweet spot between rock, pop, and country for the song. It’s a little different for the both of us, and I can’t wait to play it live again!”
With a blend of country heartbreak and sweeping pop sonics, the song describes a couple whose relationship was centered around being the life of the party. When the giddy romance fizzles out, it seems, so does the appeal of the booze.
Debuting “I Quit Drinking” at the CMT Music Awards
Kelsea has recently collaborated both with pop acts and country legends — Shania Twain, Kenny Chesney, and Halsey, to name a few. She says she’s continuing to enjoy finding common ground with other artists.
Kelsea and LANY debuted “I Quit Drinking” during Wednesday night’s CMT Music Awards, where Kelsea also served as co-host. In addition, Kelsea took home a CMT Award for “Performance of The Year” for her 2020 CMT Music Awards Performance with Halsey for “The Other Girl”.
Kelsea and LANY’s CMT Music Awards performance took place on a rooftop in downtown Nashville and started with Ballerini singing solo before LANY’s vocalist Klein joined her. At the end of the song, a shower of rain fell in what appears to be a cosmic coincidence.
