Ava Max Returns With “EveryTime I Cry”

Singer-songwriter Ava Max, known for hits such as “Sweet But Psycho,” is back with a new single, “Everytime I Cry.”

“EveryTime I Cry” Extends the Heaven & Hell Era

Ava recently released her debut album Heaven & Hell in September 2020. Since then, she released the holiday track “Christmas Without You” and the music video for “My Head & My Heart,” which formed part of the debut album.

“EveryTime I Cry” is Ava’s official first new single of the year. Contrary to popular belief, it doesn’t form part of an upcoming project. Ava said on her Twitter that the song was a continuation of Heaven & Hell. It makes sense for her to keep this era going a little longer, after all, it was the most-streamed debut album by a female EDM artist in 2020.

The new track opens with resonating synths, building up momentum until a groovy beat drops. The song is about finding power in tears and realizing that being in touch with your emotions is healthy. “EveryTime I Cry” is really just about seeing the light at the end of the tunnel and every tear you shed, it makes you also appreciate the good times, and it makes you feel like, ‘Okay, I deserve to be here, I’ve gone through the struggles and I feel like I learned something.’ I think the message of the song is super important for everybody going through hard times,” she shared on Apple Music.

Ava First Found Inspiration in Other Artists

In a recent interview with W Magazine, Ava explained what first drew her into the genre. “Growing up, I really loved big pop vocalists like Christina Aguilera and Britney Spears and Whitney Houston and Mariah Carey. I would sing their songs in my basement nonstop. I started doing singing competitions, and when I got on stage for the first time, I fell in love with performing. Then I started songwriting when I was around 13. Around 14, my whole family moved to California for a couple of years in hopes of me getting signed, but that didn’t happen. So I went back east and lived in South Carolina for a few years. Then I moved back to L.A. and met my producer, Cirkut, at a birthday party. It was all very random.”
