Known for his work with many popular artists, French producer and songwriter Gesaffelstein is often confused for being German. This artist is known for his “stabbing, urgent and distinct techno and electro hybrid,” according to Mixmag. Also known as Mike Lévy, this DJ from Lyon, France, got his start back in 2008 when he released his first EP. He then founded his own independent label a year later, named Zone, with The Hacker and Alexandre Reynaud. Throughout his starting years, his music has been used in Citroën and Givenchy advertisements. His production skills are also highly desirable. Gesaffelstein co-produced Kanye West’s sixth consecutive album. He released his first album in 2013, named Apeph.
His music has also been featured in a few popular video game albums. One such example is Grand Theft Auto V, where his remix of “Shockwave” by The Hacker appeared. In 2021, his single “Orck” was used for Apple’s October event pre-intro and outro theme music. Signing to Columbia Records in November 2018, Gesaffelstein released yet another single, “Reset,” for his upcoming 2019 album, Hyperion. He then went on to collaborate with The Weeknd in “Lost in the Fire” and Pharrell Williams in “Blast Off.” After Hyperion, his EP, Novo Sonic System, which featured six new tracks, received mixed reviews.
The artist most recently released his third consecutive album, Gamma which was released on March 29, 2024. He worked on it for almost a year between collaborations with KayCyy on EPs TW20 50 and TW2052. As of now, his YouTube channel has received 380K views since 2011, with 459K subscribers. On Spotify, he gets at least 16,000,000 listeners. The number will potentially rise in the coming months with his upcoming show, Enter the Gamma, starting on August 30, 2024.
