American alternative rock and surf rock project The Drums has released their new EP. “Plastic Envelope” & “Protect Him Always” are the two new songs which Jonathan (Jonny) Pierce dropped under the name of the current solo project. There’s an additional latest release in the single “Obvious.” Discover the journey from a four-member band to a solo musician career and the band’s work with us…
Meet The Drums
The band was first formed as a duo, when founding members Jonathan (Jonny) Pierce and Jacob Graham came up with the concept in 2008. The duo first met as children, and later on moved to Florida, where Graham used to live, to continue the project. They then moved to Brooklyn, where drummer Connor Hanwick and guitarist Adam Kessler joined. The band’s debut single “Blood Under My Belt” came out in 2017. The first album Abysmal Thoughts was released in the same year.
A few years later, however, the band became a solo act. Graham wrote:
“It’s actually been over a year now since I left the band but it’s just now coming to light with today’s press. There are no hard feelings whatsoever, I wish Jonny and the band the best of luck. I’d been with the band for almost ten years and I wanted to focus on my puppetry and my work with my new band Sound of Ceres.”
15 years after their first project, now a new release appears in The Drums’ discography.
Plastic Envelope / Protect Him Always
Plastic Envelope/ Protect Him Always is a double single release by the solo project The Drums. The short EP narrates and describes childhood traumas and self-love. With the maturity of an adult, the EP emphasizes the importance of taking care of one’s inner child, and “protect him always.”
All the things they did to me
When I was just a young boy
There's a little child that lives in me
I just wanna protect him always
The songs are very simple, genuine, and natural. Their raw imperfection make the double-single EP more personal and honest, as if it came straight from the heart.
