The Phenomenally Smooth Collab Between RM And Anderson .Paak
“Still Life” is all about, well, I’ll let RM explain himself:
“Still life means an inanimate object. As a non native English speaker, I interpreted the words as ‘Life Still Goes On’. Even though the picture is stationary in frame, it is still alive. I wanted to talk about life ongoing, moving away from fixed canvas.”
So, in layman’s terms, it’s all about progressing and moving forward. As for the production, it’s freakin’ great! It’s got a jump and dance vibe to it that has me bobbin’ my head to it. The incorporation of Anderson .Paak is also really well done. He doesn’t overshadow RM and actually gives more life (ha!) to the music overall. Plus, you can really tell that they’re having fun. Lo-Fi Inspired Collab With Erykah Badu
Named after the most recognized South Korean artist: Yun Hyong Keun, “Yun” sees RM just talkin’ about ‘em. Now, that’s not completely true. Yun is RM’s favorite painter and through his work he’s been able to really elevate his own art. He said himself that it led him to an important realization. He wants to be a human before he makes his art. Which, essentially means that RM wants to be a whole person that can be felt through the art. It isn’t just a nice song, it’s a reflection of himself.
Frankly, that’s what the best kinds of art end up being. For “Yun,” it’s wrapped up in a lo-fi aesthetic and truly excels as a result. As for Erykah Badu, in all honesty, she doesn’t add very much. What she does bring to the table is a simple and sweet segway to the chorus. So, while Anderson .Paak truly has a presence, Erykah feels more like a sprinkle.
