Joan Delivers Touching New Single “Flowers”

Rising retro-pop duo joan released their new single “flowers,” following on October’s “don’t wanna be your friend.”

Joan Is Gearing Up For Its Debut Album Coming In April

If there’s one thing we know by now, it’s that joan NEVER disappoints. The Arkansas-originated duo first made waves in 2018 when they released “i loved you first,” which now surpasses 25 million streams. Four years later, joan has amassed fans all around the globe whose number just keeps growing every day, and there’s a very good reason for that – their songs just keep getting better and better!

Joan is currently gearing up for the release of its debut album superglue, which is set for release on April 19, 2023. Nevertheless, we already have the official tracklist for the project, which will feature 13 songs. Even better, we’ve already gotten two of them – “don’t wanna be your friend” and now, “flowers.” Some unreleased tracks that we cannot wait to hear include “simple,” “coffee shop,” and “nervous.”

Remembering Old Friendships on “flowers”

So, for now, let’s get into ”flowers.” The song is an ode to a broken relationship, in which both joan members of it just happened to grow apart because, well, that’s what sometimes happens in life when it starts getting busy. “You used to call me on your drives. And some days my ears still burn. New things fill up our time. And tides rise and tables turn. Things change and that’s just life,” joan sings in the “flowers” chorus.

“I remember running around the streets of my best friend’s neighborhood after midnight, skipping around from friend to friend’s house,” joan members Alan Benjamin Thomas and Steven Rutherford share of “flowers.” “I remember rushing to my friend’s house after school to rehearse our new songs in his garage. Driving around town after the sun went down just because we could. you make so many memories in those formative years. You never think to yourself, ‘this won’t last forever’, but then you grow. It happens slowly – years go by, and seasons change. That’s just life. If you’re lucky, some of those people stick around. But for a lot of us, you’re left asking, ‘why don’t we talk anymore?’ That’s what this song is to us.”

Oh, I can totally relate to this. Who doesn’t have an old friend that they just grew apart from simply because other things come up in life? School, work, love, new friends…the list goes on. I am loving “flowers” by joan and hope you do too!
