FIFTY FIFTY is the newest—and fastest—rising K-pop girl group, thanks to TikTok challenges spreading their song, “Cupid.”
Who is FIFTY FIFTY?
K-pop girl group FIFTY FIFTY is perhaps the newest name you see when scrolling through TikTok. Their February song, “Cupid,” has become a viral hit on the social media platform.
Surprisingly, FIFTY FIFTY is actually a rookie K-pop group. They debuted only last November. With only their debut EP The Fifty and the single album for “Cupid,” The Beginning: Cupid, under their belt, the girls are certainly making big waves as a rookie group.
The K-pop girl group is made up of four members: Aran, Keena, Saena, and Sio. They’re represented by the independent label ATTRAKT. With only one of the members being born in 2002 and the other three all being born in 2004, the girls definitely have their young looks, voices, and vibes working for them.
However, many emerging K-pop acts from independent labels struggle with competing against the K-pop powerhouse labels like YG Entertainment and HYBE. ATTRAKT, knowing this, approached Siahn, who has over 25 years of experience in the K-pop industry. According to Mike Wass at Variety, Siahn helped guide and eventually steer ATTRAKT away from “the rulebook” and towards “innovation.”
With the help of Siahn and the input from the members, FIFTY FIFTY has been able to sign with Warner Records to start radio play of “Cupid (Twin Ver.).” Check out a live version of the twin version, all in English, below.
‘Cupid’ is a Chart Success
“Cupid” is a classic, dreamy pop, relaxing song about how “cupid is so dumb.” The girls sing about how he let them down in love, even after they gave him a second chance.
According to AKP Staff at ALLKPOP, as of May 5th, the song “Cupid” ranked at fourth place on YouTube’s Music Chart and Statistics with over 40 million views. This is the highest place any K-pop act has ever achieved on the chart.
Additionally, for the week of May 13th, “Cupid” rose from No. 41 to No. 19 on Billboard’s Hot 100 Chart. The week of May 13th marks the song’s 7th week on the chart.
