Weyes Blood ‘And In The Darkness, Hearts Aglow’

American indie singer, songwriter, and musician Weyes Blood drops her latest masterpiece, And In The Darkness, Hearts Aglow.

‘And In The Darkness, Hearts Aglow’

With the lightness and purity of a fairy, American artist Natalie Laura Mering, aka Weyes Blood, delivers another magical piece of art. Following her previous undeniable masterpiece, Titanic Rising, starring the suspenseful “Andromeda,” Mering – unsurprisingly – did it again.
If Titanic Rising embraced the theme of space and lack of gravity, And In Darkness, Hearts Aglow feels more connected to the mystery of nature. Dressed as a magical, fascinating creature in her shining white, long dress, Weyes Blood introduces her new album.

The artist once again offers her characteristic, velvety voices, and melodic lines. Through her unmistakable features, Weyes Blood produced and released an album that reaches the levels of previous successes. Co-created by Ben Babbitt, Jonathan Rado and Rodaidh McDonald, And In Darkness, Hearts Aglow is Weyes Blood’s new masterpiece. Glorious hits like the opening “It’s Not Just Me, It’s Everybody,” resume previous publications. However, she also introduces the maturity that Mering grew in the last three years.

“The truth is the album took a lot of spirit-water to make, in a time when there was such a drought of spirit. I definitely lost my marbles multiple times, but so many wonderful people contributed their blood, sweat, tears and bioluminescence to its completion, that we created a lot of meaning together and for that I am eternally grateful.”

Liturgical And Earthly

“God Turn Me Into A Flower” is a wonderful choral piece, both liturgical and earthly in style. The union of choral harmonies and the chirping of birds on a flowing-water background unites the earthly with the astral in a mystical romance. However, while maintaining the entire album on the metaphysical level, songs like “Hearts Aglow” and “Children of the Empire” embrace a soft rock and even R&B theme as well.

Weyes Blood’s voice and music is something special and surprising at the same time. The album – as much as the previous ones – transports the listener to a nostalgic, parallel dimension. Here, the mystical and the otherworldly predominate and control. And In Darkness, Hearts Aglow once again reconfirms the pivotal role of Weyes Blood in the indie scene. With her uniqueness and artistic power, Weyes Blood has once again managed to create something that is both predictably breathtaking and surprising.
