The indie-pop group Wet follows up their 2021 album with an EP of the same name: “Letter Blue (Reprise)”.

The New York group released their third album, “Letter Blue,” in late October last year. Describing the sound, lead singer Kelly Zutrau says, “[the album] is the sound of a band enjoying what they’re doing and having fun with it, and despite the occasional misses, you can’t help but enjoy it right alongside them.”
This album marked a return of sorts for the band as it was their first independent release since their two releases on Columbia Records. Also, founding bandmate and guitarist Marty Sulkow returned for “Letter Blue” after leaving for four years due to artistic conflicts.
Like Wet always do, they create ethereal, atmospheric music, especially with “Letter Blue,” which is fused with R&B. Tracks like “Bound (with Blood Orange)” and “Clementine” have trap beats, yet they emphasize Wet’s delicate melodies and whispered vocals. The second single, “Larabar,” remains a standout track for the album despite being a laidback, piano-driven track about distorted relationships.

Released in April, the EP continues the sonic universe of “Letter Blue” (from 2021) with five new tracks. There was little promotion for its release, but the group showed love to its contributors. There are no big leaps on the EP– just a relaxing addition to Wet’s discography. The standout tracks are “I Won’t” and “Almost,” which are thematically polar opposites.
“I Won’t” adopts an acoustic forte to help the production’s ad-libs and atmospheric lightness. It is hopeful and joyful, showing Wet being steadfast in their decision-making.
“Almost” is on the brink of giving into toxic love. The track is quite experimental for the group: it stars with heavy vocal distortion and minimal atmospheric sensory but breaks into slow trap beat. Zutrau pleads her case in full clarity, and the feeling is human.
Wet: On Tour
Recently, the band announced a North American tour with 30 dates, starting in Tuscon. The tour will have musical guests Joy Again, Zsela, and Hannah Jadagu on select dates. Tickets are available here.
