Trevor Jackson Drops ‘Show Me Diamonds’ EP
Former Disney actor Trevor Jackson has released his EP, Show Me Diamonds, on November 16. The EP includes four songs, “Show Me Diamonds,” “Back Problems,” “2Little,” and “Just For Fun” featuring singer Haben Abraham.
Where It Started
Trevor Jackson is an American actor, singer, and songwriter. He began his career in 2004 at the age of eight in The Lion King musical on Broadway. He won the role of young Simba. Following his run on Broadway, he transitioned from the stage to the screen landing a role as a guest star on the show Cold Case. From 2010 to 2012, he played the character Kevin Blake on the show Eureka for two seasons. He then continued to guest star on many shows.
Jackson later appeared as a guest star on the Disney show Austin and Ally, which expanded his career into bigger productions. One movie he may be very known for is the original Disney movie Let It Shine, where he played Kris McDuffy alongside popular actors like Tyler James Williams and Coco Jones.
In 2012, Atlantic Records signed Jackson, which opened the doors for him to become more involved in the musical world. He released his first single, “Like We Grown,” in February 2013, at the age of 17. In September 2013, Trevor Jackson released his first EP; #NewThang EP. To promote it, he toured with singer Justine Skye, another Atlantic Records artist.

The EP is mostly R&B, but there are a few hints of drill in it. Drill music has become very popular in recent times. It started in Chicago, and has quickly been taking over New York City. Many popular songs these days have drill remixes, which people either dance to, or use as instrumentals to rap over in the background.
Jackson took to twitter to explain his fusion. “With all due respect to the culture of drill music, I felt the inspiration to add it,” said Jackson. “That space has turned into ‘drill&b’ and people are loving it. I had a great time making this project and I wanted my fans to feel the same energy I felt when I made it as they listen in. Here’s a little treat before the holidays.”
In the opening track that shares the same name as the EP title, Jackson sings about women with expensive taste. The chorus sings “Listen, I’m not your ordinary lover / I’ll do you right and make you call my name / She’s like, ‘Boy, before you go any further I’ve got somethin’ I really need to say’ / She said, ‘Baby, f**k all that love you got to give, boy, show me diamonds.” It plays on the old saying ‘diamonds are a girl’s best friend’.
The EP for the most part touches on subjects like intimacy, love, money, and in the end the artist puts out the message that he’s open to meeting new people, but with no strings attached. Show Me Diamonds is Jackson’s first release since his debut studio album, The Love Language.
Current Life
In recent events, Jackson won the ‘Soul Train Certified Award’ in the 2019 Soul Train Music Awards. He is also currently on the popular show Grown-Ish, which is a spinoff of the show Black-Ish. Jackson plays the character Aaron Jackson, a classmate and love interest of the main character, Zoey Johnson, played by actress Yara Shahidi.
It seems as though he’s taking his music very serious. He has his collection of music and videos on his website, which can be found here.
