Tkay Maidza is ready for the last EP of the Last Year Was Weird trilogy, coming out in July. She made the big announcement after dropping “Cashmere.”
“Cashmere” Showcases Tkay’s Versatility
The Australian singer-songwriter and rapper started the Last Year Was Weird trilogy back in 2018. The trilogy consists of three different EP’s that follow the same pattern, as their titles suggest. Last year, she dropped the second volume of this trilogy, and now she is ready to release the last part of it. Last Year Was Weird, Vol. 3 will officially be out on July 9 of this year.
The track is a showcase in versatility, with Tkay Maidza owning a new future R&B and neo-soul sound. She draws her gorgeous singing abilities and pairs them with softly spoken, poetry-infused rap verses. Its accompanying music video matches the track’s tone perfectly. It’s a flower utopia, with Tkay riding through the lavender skies, soaked in pollen. It’s directed by Jasper Soloff, known for this work with Tinashe and DJ Khaled.
The Last Year Was Weird Trilogy Comes to an End
On the creation of the EP, she stated, “Last Year Was Weird, Vol. 3 is the final chapter of the trilogy – I am so excited but it’s also bittersweet, this last chapter is about accepting what it is and stepping into that power and really letting go of anything that’s hindering my path. It feels like a life cycle and a lesson that’s come and gone quickly and I’m grateful for the people I’ve met on the way. I feel like I’ve really come to realize that I’ve always had what I needed I just needed to see it clearly. And Last Year Was Weird has helped me do that. Many of the songs feel like a mixture of the first two but are at their brightest and boldest because I understand now where I can exist – which was the point of this trilogy. I’m excited for what’s next.”
Just recently, Tkay announced that she will be performing at this year’s Day N Vegas festival. It will take place at Las Vegas Festival Grounds on November 12-14. She will take the stage on Friday, November 12.
