SOPHIE’s Legacy Lives on with Posthumous Album

A Visionary Like No Other

Legendary producer, ingenious DJ and hyperpop icon SOPHIE left behind a legacy like no other. She fiercely blazed through the boundaries of conventional sound, leaving bone-crunching beats, stirring ballads and gut-twisting verses in her wake.

In the years since her fall trying to photograph a winter’s night full moon, her music remains unwavering in its power and influence. SOPHIE paved the way for what we now know as hyperpop alongside co-producer A.G. Cook. Her reach within the industry is enormous. She produced for pop icons Charli XCX, Kim Petras, Vince Staples, Madonna, MØ, QT and many others.

Looking to the Future

Now her brother, Benny Long, is picking up the torch and is mixing the final SOPHIE album, set to release on September 27th. In a statement released by SOPHIE’s family, they detail the following:

“It feels only right to share with the world the music she hoped to release, in the belief that we can all connect with her in this, the form she loved the most.

Sophie gave all of herself to her music. It’s here that she can always be found.”

In addition to this announcement, the single “Reason Why” with Kim Petras and BC Kingdom came out. This is the first new release since what was thought to be SOPHIE’s one and only album, the industry-shaking OIL OF EVERY PEARL’S UN-INSIDES. It bounces with the same energy so characteristic yet unique to SOPHIE. It twinkles and shines just as bright as the star herself, bursting with hope.

“Visionary” is certainly not a word to be used lightly. SOPHIE was a visionary. She never sampled, building her mind-bending textures from the ground up. No emotion is left untouched by SOPHIE’s discography. It embodies, fear, euphoria, heartbreak and everything in between. And now it represents the future.

So, remember SOPHIE during the next full moon. It’s impossible to forget her.

“The past isn’t sexy, the future is sexy. That’s all I have to say about that.”
