Global pop star Shawn Mendes joined forces with Puerto Rican producer Tainy for a new single. In “Summer Of Love,” Shawn reminisces on his last summer and how much time he got to spend with his significant other.
Shawn Remembers Last Summer With Camila
It’s not a secret that Shawn Mendes and Camila Cabello are a couple (and the cutest one!). From collaborating on songs such as their global hit “Señorita” in 2019 and their Christmas jingle “The Christmas Songs” last holiday season, they always make sure to show the world how much they love each other.
Both artists are now known for writing love songs about one another. Since Shawn’s musical career started, he would always write love songs that fans fell in love with. Now that Camila is his first official girlfriend, he doesn’t keep it a secret that the songs he writes are dedicated to her.
“Summer Of Love” is not different, as Shawn shares how last summer was the best one of his life; since he got to spend it with his loved one. “It was the summer of love. A delicate daydream. And for a couple of months. It felt like we were 18,” he sings in the chorus.
Tainy Joined to Help Produce the Song
Shawn shared with Rolling Stone that he wishes people can relate to the song. “I hope this song makes people feel free, free from the weight of life, even if just for a moment. The inspiration was getting a few months off to have a real summer with the people I love. My favorite part about creating it was getting the opportunity to work in the studio with Tainy. It was a special experience connecting with him since he’s such an incredible artist and amazing producer.”
Tainy added, “Working with Shawn was so easy and really organic, to be honest. He is a true musician and vocalist but aside from that, the energy he brought to the studio was super genuine so creating feel-good music together just flowed. The chemistry is there and you can hear it in the music. [The song] has a very ‘summer vibe’ feel, led by main guitars and chords so I just wanted to give it more movement and heavy bass. That paired with Shawn’s vocals made it a perfect fit.”
