Selena Quintanilla’s Family Releases First Posthumous Single

27 years after Selena’s tragic death, her family released her very first posthumous single, “Como Te Quiero Yo A Ti.”

It’s Been 27 Years Since Selena’s Passing

This is a highly emotional moment for fans of Selena. For the first time since 1995, they are hearing a new song by the beloved Tejano star. As we remember, the singer was tragically murdered only 2 weeks prior to her 24th birthday by Yolanda Saldívar. She was a fan and manager of Selena’s boutiques after Selena found out that she had been stealing money from her business and decided to fire her.

Since then, fans held Selena’s music closer than ever. Songs like “Bidi Bidi Bom Bom,” “La Carcacha,” and “Amor Prohibido” still play in bars, at family reunions, and at homes of people who fell in love with her music. But now, there is a new song that they can listen to: “Como Te Quiero Yo A Ti.”

“Como Te Quiero Yo A Ti” is a Sweet Ballad

The new song is a sweet ballad, where Selena sings about heartbreak and being in love with a person that doesn’t feel the same about her. Nevertheless, her melodic vocals make the song feel like it’s an ode to her fans. “It truly feels like she went into the studio again and recorded it,” Selena’s sister, Suzette Quintanilla, tells ABC’s Good Morning America. “It’s pretty incredible.”

The single was written by Ricky Vela, who was an original member of the Selena y Los Dinos band. The song was produced by her brother and long-time producer, AB Quintanilla, who says the track took more than a year to assemble.

“There were a lot of obstacles to overcome. Everything was recorded on vinyl,” AB shares. “So we had to kind of fuse the old school ways with the new school ways. Clean Selena’s vocals, put them on timing. And then we also pitched her vocal down just a hair to make her sound a little bit more mature.”

The single is the first of an upcoming Selena album, Moonchild Mixes. Surprisingly, the album is set for release on August 26, so there’s not much of a wait left for a lot of new music from Selena. We can’t wait to listen to it!
