Sasha Keable & Jorja Smith Put Self-Love First in “Killing Me”

English singer-songwriters Sasha Keable and Jorja Smith got together for a new soulful new single, “Killing Me,” where they sing about putting themselves first before anyone else.

“Killing Me” Helped Sasha & Jorja Move on

The two musicians united their vocals for the soulful – yet chilling – new track; where they express the feeling of moving on from relationships and finally finding strength in themselves. They sing, “I need to be loved by myself. Before I’ll love someone else. And that’s not you. That’s not you anymore.”

Speaking about the collaboration, Sasha says, “Jorja and I were long overdue to write together. We met up at Ben’s (our guitarist) house who wrote ‘Killing Me’ with us and in four incredible hours we had the song. It was mad how easily it came. We had both gone through difficult breakups and were clearly done with how we were feeling. ‘Killing Me’ was the result of that and helped us both to move on.”

The painful but positive song is accompanied by a visual, directed by London-based Olivia Rose. Speaking about the video, Sasha told The FADER, “Jorja and I really wanted this video to be reflective of a real traditional duet, and Olivia did just that. We actually used Beyoncé and Shakira’s Beautiful Liar’ as a reference; we wanted the styling to be the same but different, respecting both our individual styles but allowing fleeting moments of not knowing who was who. Olivia also wanted to make sure we showed the true emotions of the song but through the female gaze to perfectly match a song all about us as women realizing our worth.”

“Killing Me” arrives accompanied by the news of Sasha’s upcoming EP Intermission, which will be out later this year. The song will be part of the EP alongside previous singles “Don’t Get Lost” and “Exception.”
