The popular singing competition The Voice announced the coaches for the upcoming season 23 next year. The show’s favorites Kelly Clarkson and Blake Shelton, plus new coaches Niall Horan and Chance the Rapper.
The new set of coaches marks the first time in a long time since The Voice has seen more than one new coach in a new season. For the past three years, the main coaches have been John Legend, Kelly Clarkson, Gwen Stefani, and Blake Shelton. Usually, one of them steps out for one season, and artists like Nick Jonas, Ariana Grande, and currently, Camila Cabello have stepped in to take that spot.
Blake Shelton to Step Down After Next Season
But it looks like things might be starting to change. Blake Shelton has been a coach since the show’s premiere in 2011. He just announced that after season 23, he will be stepping down as a coach for The Voice. Additionally, John Legend and Gwen Stefani won’t be there during that season. So, who knows which new coaches we get for the season after? It will certainly be an exciting roller coaster to see.
“I’ve been wrestling with this for a while and I’ve decided that it’s time for me to step away from The Voice after season 23,” Blake shared in his announcement. “This show has changed my life in every way for the better and it will always feel like home to me. It’s been a hell of a ride over these 12 years of chair turns and I want to thank everyone at The Voice from NBC, every producer, the writers, musicians, crew, and catering people, you are the best.”
New Coaches Niall Horan and Chance the Rapper
We wish Blake the best of luck but glad to see him on our screens for one more season! Plus, the new coaches will make great additions to the show. Niall, as you might know, was part of the popular band One Direction. He began his singing career on The X Factor, a singing competition show just like The Voice. So, he will have some good advice to tell the people on his team!
Chance the Rapper will also be a fun one to see. He will be the first-ever coach whose main genre is hip hop and rap, as coaches usually are experts in pop, country, or R&B. So, it will be interesting to see what kind of team he forms.
There is no official release date for The Voice season 23, but season 22 is currently taking place. You can watch it live on NBC Mondays and Tuesdays or on Peacock to stream the next day.
