Based in Long Beach, California Rini K is exploring a new lyrical honesty in her upcoming single “Reason to Run,” dropped last week. The song deals with relationships but isn’t your stereotypical breakup song. It’s about that gut instinct feeling one gets, where you feel like you need your independence despite liking, or maybe even loving someone.
“The song is about this notion many of my independent friends share, in that we feel empowered in our singleness, and are absolutely terrified to give that up to just anyone,” Rini says.
A Childhood On The Move
Rini K’s music has grown over the years, having started songwriting at 11 years old. Much of her early work was influenced by her childhood, where she moved often, living in different places such as Texas, Colorado, and even Switzerland among others.
“I believe that my family’s constant uprooting and adapting to new places gave me a hunger to truly experience life with no limits and allow spontaneity to be a key part of my lifestyle,” Rini says, and you can hear that experience and spontaneity in her work.
Bringing Fans Into Her Story
Rini K is also a musician with a close connection to her audience. Her first professional music video, “Burning,” was made with her fans. Rini is even on a first name basis with many of her fans. One of her fans actually sent her a reaction video of their baby sister eagerly listening to Rini’s tunes.
“It’s moments like that which truly fuel my drive to keep working at my art and staying present with the fans in the process,” Rini said of the video.
She has also recently joined Music Daily’s artist collective, where she is continuing to build her fan community.
Where to Start Listening
For a new listener Rini K herself suggested her single, “Can’t Keep Defending You,” as a good starting place. Released this year, the song is a perfect example of the sound and lyricism her music has matured to over the years. Her moody alt pop sound and honest personal lyrics are apparent throughout the track. For those whose appetite can’t be satisfied with singles from Rini’s debut 2020 album, 6N7, should be able to hold you over until the release of “Reason to Run.” The album is a good sample of her early imaginative work.
“My debut album feels like peering into a kid’s imagination, because that is exactly what that record was,” Rini says.
There is something for everyone on any Rini K single or EP. Whether it’s the childlike imagination of 6N7, or the raw honest lyricism of “Can’t Keep Defending You,” her music will have you coming back to learn a little bit more.
Upcoming Releases
The aforementioned new single “Reason to Run just released on Thursday October 22nd. It is a shimmering alt pop track, that is prepared to make a statement on modern dating and the feelings of new romance.
“Every once in a while, I run into girls like myself who are on a mission of building their dream life that centers around their passion, education, and friendships. Sometimes dating can feel like a threat to that when you’ve protected your peace for so long.”
And as if a new single wasn’t a sweet enough treat for Rini K fans she has also announced that she will be releasing a new EP titled Mirrors, Martyrs, and Mayhem soon. It is truly a good time to be a Rini K fan.
