McFly Have a New Rock Album on the Way

English band McFly are working on a new rock album. There is no official release date announced yet, but they have recorded eight songs so far.

McFly are Going Back to Their Rock Roots

The new album will arrive as the follow-up to 2020’s Young Dumb Thrills. With this album, the band made their big return as a band after almost a decade of going on hiatus. Their last album prior to their break was Above The Noise in 2010. Now, they’re ready to release more music and go back to their rockier roots.

Drummer Harry Judd told newspaper The Sun, “We are working on the seventh album. We have 16 songs and have recorded eight so far. It’s not classic pop, it is back to more guitar, drums, and bass.”

The rockstar noted that the band has been getting into the studio and writing songs together after taking a “different approach” last time around. “Young Dumb Thrills still had guitars and drums on it but there was programming and a bit of a different approach to recording,” he added. “This time, from day one of writing and recording, we’ve had all our gear set up.”

“So if Tom has brought in a song in the morning, we go straight into playing it as a band to get parts that way. We’ve been writing songs in that environment as well, and writing riffs.”

He admitted that McFly is ready to go back to the “perspective” they had right before taking a break. “We wanted to approach this from more of a band perspective, how we would have done it ten years ago. We wanted to let our instruments do the talking on this album. In our fourth album Radio:Active, we wanted to recreate that setting.”

Judd finished up, “Musically it is not the same as Radio:Active but we wanted to create that same feeling of why we love being in a band and playing our instruments together.”
