mazie is back after her debut EP the rainbow cassette
Baltimore-born, mazie, is back with another sunshine-infused single titled spinnin. Earlier this year, the artist released their first EP. Titled the rainbow cassette, the eight-track project saw hits like no friends and dumb dumb. The EP was cheeringly blasé because of its mix of glitchy-power-up sounds and existential lyrics. For this reason, the EP was also addictively sweet and something that got many plays here at Music Daily. Now, with her new single, spinnin, mazie is bringing us back to the same dreary Candyland she left us in… and we’re indulging.
spinnin sees signature tongue-in-cheek production
The track features the same producer that we saw from her EP: longtime friend Elie Jay Rizk. The two of them together make music that is fun, quite frankly. On spinnin that comes out with their fusion of hip-hop and daycare sing-along genre mashup. It is dizzying, but that’s what you get when you’re spinnin’. Lyrically, mazie says, “Don’t know who I am right now but the world’s still spinnin’.” Those lyrics from the chorus perfectly explain the style mazie and Rizk have created. With all the terrible things happening in the world, why not make music in the funky style they do? After all, the worlds going to keep spinnin’ let’s have fun.
Watch the charming music video
Visually, mazie keeps that same energy in the music video for the track. The video is just as carefree as the song. Directed by Lauren and Phil, you see mazie inside her own head, manually operating her brain. She is styled in her trademark nu-70’s style clothing and is ecstatically running around the town. In all, it perfectly fits in with the retro and crafty style of her other videos. If you haven’t yet, check it out.
Additionally, you can find mazie touring with COIN starting in November and can stay up to date with her on Twitter and Instagram.
