Lorde has surprised us once again with her brand-new single “Stoned at the Nail Salon” from her upcoming album Solar Power.
This slow introspective track is a complete 180 from her previous single “Solar Power.” The quiet guitar riffs, and beautiful, soft vocal harmonies open up a whole new world for Lord’s sound. In this track, Lorde opens up about the dichotomy found within her abnormal life as an artist. In an email Lorde sent her fans, she expressed that both sides have become, equally, a part of who she is.
“I know now that as hard as I try to run towards or away one of the sides of my life, they’re both very much who I am,” Lorde stated. “It’s jarring to move between them, but that dichotomy is me. And writing this song was a real step toward embracing that.”
Lorde is Ready to “Cool it Down”?
In a radio interview with Zane Lowe, Lorde discussed the transition from Pure Heroine to Melodrama to now.
“For the last one I was…21 and still kind of like ‘the kids’ and then the culture started to change, and I didn’t know that I wanted to change with it,” Lorde expressed. “I didn’t know if I wanted to be ‘TikTok girl’. It was a real crossroads, I had to be like ‘do you want to keep being the kids, or do you want to transition through that?”
Lorde’s newest era is looking to be the era less of questions and more of self-acceptance and lessons learned. Lorde was once the leader of the teens on the outside and is now the outsider who learned to live comfortably on the inside. Lorde’s new album Solar Power comes out on August 20th and tickets for her upcoming tour are going on sale right now.
