Lana Del Rey has dropped a teaser trailer for her upcoming album, Chemtrails Over the Country Club.
Our first glimpse into the world of Del Rey’s newest album clocks in at 24 seconds. During that brief timeframe, we get a soundbite of the ethereal title track playing over a cinematic montage from the title track’s forthcoming music video. Aesthetics hold a heavy cosmic weight in Del Rey’s universe. That is to say, the debut of distinctive visuals for every album release informs listeners of what to expect.
For 2019’s Norman F**king Rockwell, the vibes were summery, colorful, and light-hearted. It was her most upbeat era, even with its heartbreaking lyrics that the singer is known for. With Chemtrails Over the Country Club, the moody aesthetic is a return to form. In essence, the trailer is composed of noir-esque black-and-white shots intercut with Technicolor-like footage. Film-grain, a texture beloved by the nostalgic singer, coats every scene. Most importantly, we get our first look at a renewed Del Rey with her most iconic motif making a reappearance: the singer sitting behind the wheel of a vintage car.
What to Expect from Lana Del Rey in 2021?
Due to the pandemic, whether touring will happen in 2021 or 2022 is unknown. As for 2020, Del Rey stayed out of the spotlight until the end of the year. After pushing back her upcoming release to January, she shifted her focus on the September release of her debut book of poetry, Violet Bent Backwards Over the Grass.
Once the book came out, the tail end of 2020 saw a procession of music releases by the singer. In October, she dropped ‘Let Me Love You Like a Woman’. Then in November, she released a “Gershwin” remix of ‘Summertime’. This month, the Chemtrails Over the Country Club‘s teaser trailer follows a 7″ vinyl for a documentary on Liverpool FC and a performance on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon.
