Country singer Kelsea Ballerini had big country names Kelly Clarkson and Carly Pierce collaborate on her song “YOU’RE DRUNK, GO HOME.” The song is one of 15 on Ballerini’s newest album, SUBJECT TO CHANGE.
The song is a sassy rejection for drunks who try to ask people out. It’s also just a fun country song with equal parts feisty and comedy.
The lyrics of “YOU’RE DRUNK, GO HOME” also speak for themselves:
“But you got a lot to learn ’bout flirtin’ with a lady / I’m down to talk dirty, but you started talking dirty too soon”
“The way you’re slurring and the way you stumble / Ain’t no way you’re gonna get my number”
“Yeah, I know you’re a Virgo, that’s the third time you told me / Just ’cause I am too doesn’t mean that you know me”
How Kelsea Ballerini’s Collaboration Came To Be
In an interview with Billboard, Ballerini spoke on how the collaboration came about. “I was kind of dead set on not collaborating on this album, just because I feel like I’ve done a lot of collaborating recently,” Ballerini said. She explained, “I love collaborations, but I just wanted to make sure that I could stand on my own two feet.”
However, after writing the song, Ballerini realized that a female trio would make the song so much more fun and enjoyable. She talked about how Pierce and Clarkson immediately agreed to sing with her. “Carly and I have been friends for, like, 10 years, before either of us had anything going on and we’ve just seen each other personally and professionally through so many seasons of life. We’ve always wanted to do a song together and this made sense.”
For the third voice, Kelsea Ballerini wanted a singer who could add a different vocal texture. “I thought the biggest ask I could make is Kelly Clarkson, and I texted her that morning.” Now, Clarkson, of course, couldn’t say no. “She did her vocals that night,” Ballerini shared.
Ballerini’s decision to collaborate with two amazing country singers was a fantastic one. It adds so much more personality and playfulness. Listen to the song below!
