Gorillaz Makes You Feel With “Baby Queen”

It’s been a little bit since we last heard from the iconic band: Gorillaz. Specifically, as of the writing of this piece, two months have passed since “New Gold.” However, a little over a week ago, our ears were blessed with a new song! And just like that, Gorillaz gave us the absolutely phenomenal, “Baby Queen. ”

Finally (Officially) Here!

Now, I think I should address the elephant in the room. If you’re a die hard Gorillaz fan, then you’ve probably heard “Baby Queen” a WHILE ago. For those who don’t know, I’ll give you a single word to help you catch you up: “leak.” So, with a completely legal and official release what can I say about the fantastically done single? A lot with a little.

Gorillaz, since the release of Song Machine Vol. 1, have been on a roll! It’s no secret that the band fell into a state of monotonia prior to their current creative renaissance. As for the upcoming release of Cracker Island (that’s the album, not the single) it seems like it’s just piling on. “Baby Queen” is Gorillaz in a state of utter bliss and nostalgia. I don’t mean that in terms of lyrics; I mean it’s got that vibe.

It opens with a small sound that feels like the tail end of a track prior. Then, it picks up wonderfully. Drums and keys fill the atmosphere as Gorillaz frontman, 2D, cuts through it and shares a dream he’s had. He dreams of a Princess he met in Thailand and how he got to meet her again as a Queen. I know that this can seemingly be disconnected to our reality. However, the comments and I have to disagree with the notion!

Gorillaz Put You In The Feels

This song, in its entirety, feels as if it’s nothing more than an incredibly successful attempt at making you feel. It’s a simple thing in concept, but this song really gets it. You can feel yourself in another place; one with wonderment and a nostalgic sense of connection.

That’s what Baby Queen is, and honestly, I’m glad I grew up a bit before listening to really get it! Hopefully you’ll like it too! Feel free to listen to the song by clicking here. For more on your favorites and unknowns check out our Word and Drops sections.
