(G)I-DLE makes a comeback that’s all about the journey to empowerment and self-confidence.
(G)I-DLE is Taking Control of the Narrative
It’s not unusual for K-pop groups to create extensive storylines throughout their discography. (G)I-DLE does exactly that with their two new music videos for “Allergy” and “Queencard.” Both songs are off their new album, I Feel.
“Allergy”
The music video for “Allergy” starts off with Soyeon, (G)I-DLE’s rapper, in a typical nerdy, unsophisticated look. She spends most of the video struggling with self-esteem and self-doubt. She’s envious of the other group members, Minnie, Miyeon, Yuqi, and Shuhua, who all make it seem like they know how to navigate fitting in. By the end of the video, Soyeon’s character makes the decision to have plastic surgery so she can be like the girls she sees in viral videos.

“Queencard”
“Allergy” sets the stage for “Queencard.” The music video for “Queencard” essentially picks up where the one for “Allergy” left off. “Allergy” speaks to people’s inner voices who wonder why they aren’t up to society’s beauty standards. They want to strive for popularity and fit in. In contrast, “Queencard” works to hype people up. There is no need for incredibly deep lyrics for this song. This song is meant to be fun, freeing, and a confidence booster. (G)I-DLE wants to hype up Neverlands, the name for (G)I-DLE fans.
The outro of the song embodies the message (G)I-DLE wants to send.
“A girl wearing whatever
Queenca-ca-card
A girl who’s thin or thick
Queenca-ca-card
A girl full of confidence
Queenca-ca-card”
The chorus for the song has become an excerpt for a TikTok dance challenge. It’s virally catchy, and the many repetitions of “I’m a Queencard” stay stuck in your head.
